WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR GOLF GAME AND THE TOUR PROS?Part 1.

OFF THE TEE

Today am going to take about what separates us from the best players in the world. Im hoping this blog will help you realise that you are better than you think you are, also it will help you manage your expectations.  The topic today is going to be all about the driver.

Driving Distance: When watching golf on TV and watching clips on social media you are led to believe that all the tour pros are smashing it 350 yards down the middle of the fairway every time. But that is not the case. In fact, only 1/5th of all PGA tour players averaged over 300 yards. The average driving distance is 291 yards but you have to take in to account they are playing on firm fairways and in warm weather. The average carry distance on the PGA tour is actually 278 yards. If you think about this, that’s not crazy long. I carry the ball roughly about 265-270 yards. And I know that all amateurs don’t carry the ball as far as I do. But even if you’re hitting it 220-230 off the tee you’re not actually giving up much to the pros as much as you think. Because remember they are playing courses much longer than you or I might be playing.

When I was younger I always though distance was the key to my improvement, but as I matured and got better I soon realised that distance off the tee is not the thing that was holding me back. So, you can see I am not the longest player in the world but I have had a pretty successful college career as of yet. Therefore, in conclusion driving distance is not the be all and end all for your improvement. You can still be a great player even if you are behind the average distance of your playing partners!
